Sell your van

How to sell your van, from listing to handover.

Selling a camper van or conversion takes a clear listing, good photos and a careful handover. This guide covers what to include, where vans get sold, and how to stay safe. On RME Market your first Van listing is free for a 30-day term, and RME takes no payment and provides no escrow.

The short answer

What a good van listing includes

Buyers of a converted van are buying two things: the vehicle and the build. Cover both. RME’s Van listing form asks for a title, an asking price, the condition (New, Like New, Good, Fair or Poor), a city or general area, a description and 1–20 photos, and its placeholder spells out the description: the van, mileage, condition, title status and pickup details.

Price it with the title status and known faults stated up front. A listing that hides a salvage title or a leaking roof wastes everyone’s time and ends in a dispute.

01

The vehicle

Year, make, model and drivetrain, mileage, title status, service history, tires, known mechanical issues and anything recently replaced.

02

The build

Layout, bed size, battery bank and solar, fresh and grey water capacity, heater, fridge, insulation, ventilation, and who did the electrical and gas work.

03

The photos

Up to 20 on RME. Exterior from each corner, the full interior from the rear doors and the side door, the bed made up, the kitchen, the electrical bay, under the van, and the dashboard showing mileage.

Details that matter

Before you count on it.

Where vans get sold

Most sellers use several channels at once: general classifieds, vehicle marketplaces, vanlife groups and forums, and specialist camper dealers or consignment. A community marketplace like RME Market reaches buyers who already understand conversions and can read a spec list. Whichever you use, keep the facts identical across every listing.

A photo checklist

  • All four exterior corners in daylight, plus the roof (solar, fan, rack).
  • Interior from the rear doors and from the side door, wide.
  • Bed made up, kitchen and storage open, bathroom or toilet setup if any.
  • Electrical bay with the battery and inverter labels readable.
  • Water tanks, heater and gas locker.
  • Dashboard with the odometer, and any warning lights visible rather than hidden.
  • Known flaws: rust, damage, worn upholstery. Buyers trust listings that show them.

Paperwork and handover

  • Have the title in your name and ready, with a bill of sale that records the price, date, mileage and “as-is” terms where your state allows.
  • Let a serious buyer arrange an independent inspection; a pre-purchase inspection protects you as much as them.
  • Meet at a bank, a DMV or another public place in daylight, and bring someone with you.
  • Take payment in a form you can verify before you hand over the keys and title: a cashier’s check verified at the issuing bank, or a bank transfer you have watched clear. Do not accept overpayment and refund stories, gift cards, cryptocurrency or verification-code requests.
  • Remove your plates if your state requires it, cancel the insurance after the transfer, and keep a copy of everything.

What RME does and does not do

RME Market is a classifieds feature. RME does not process payments, hold funds, act as escrow, ship, insure or guarantee a sale. The in-app safety sheet says it plainly: “Market is person-to-person. Meet in public, inspect before you pay, and keep messages in RME.” Use the report control on any listing or conversation that looks wrong and keep your messages and receipts.

Straight answers

Questions about sell your van.

The details that help you decide how RME fits your next trip.

How much does it cost to list a van on RME?

Your first Van listing is free for a 30-day term. Later Van listings cost 500 Embers for 30 days. Gear listings are free for 30 days, and Service listings cost 500 Embers for 30 days. Embers are RME’s in-app currency.

Does RME handle the payment or guarantee the sale?

No. RME Market connects members through listings and conversations. RME does not process marketplace payments or provide escrow, shipping, insurance or a purchase guarantee. Payment and handover are between you and the buyer.

How exact is the location on a listing?

You choose a city or general area from the suggestions. Buyers see that area, not your street. Arrange the viewing somewhere public.

What should I do about lowball or suspicious messages?

Ignore pressure to pay or ship immediately, never send verification codes or documents through chat, and report suspected fraud from the listing or conversation. Preserve the messages.

Can I sell gear or offer a service too?

Yes. Gear listings (solar, fridges, roof racks, tools) are free for 30 days. Service listings, for example installation or repair work, show no price or condition and cost 500 Embers for a 30-day term.
