Events in RME are hikes, campfires, meetups and gatherings that members and RME put on the Roam map. Filter by distance and date, mark yourself Going or join the waitlist, and talk to everyone going in the event chat. Caravans are dated routes you can follow and join at any stop. RME does not invent events: what you see is what members have published.

The short answer

How Events works

Open Roam → Events, choose your location and a radius (50 miles by default), then filter by audience (Public, Friends, Attending, Mine) and time (Happening now, Next 7 days, Next 30 days, Next year). Results are ranked by people going, then the waitlist, with RME picks first. An event shows its dates, a description and a photo, how far away it is, and who is going.

Tap Going, or Join waitlist when it is full, and open the Event chat to say hi to everyone going. Event chats move to your Archived inbox a day after the event ends, and you can keep talking there.

Find one

Distance, date and audience filters. “No events in this area and time range” means exactly that; try a wider radius or another date.

Talk before you go

Every event has a chat for everyone going. Ask about parking, rigs and what to bring.

Caravans

A dated route with stops, a meeting point and notes. Join at any remaining stop and arrange the meetup in the caravan chat.

How it works in RME

Hosting your own

Tap + on the Roam map and choose Create event
Add a title, a description, start and end dates, a photo (the first is the cover) and pin the location on the map.

Choose who sees it
Share it with friends or publish it publicly. Dates, a clear description and a photo help people join.

Or publish a caravan
Give it a name and a cover, add dated stops with notes and a meeting point, pick a co-host from your mutual friends if you like, and choose Public, Friends or only the people you choose.

Keep the group in the loop
Message everyone going from the event or caravan chat. Hosts can adjust caravan dates and cancel if plans change.

Check the location, timing and practical requirements, and confirm road and site conditions with authoritative local sources.
A community event is an invitation to learn more, not a guarantee about the organizer or the conditions.
Tell someone your plan, keep your own transport, and use the report control if anything about an event or its chat raises a concern.

Are there vanlife meetups near me?

Open Roam → Events, set your location and radius, and filter by date. RME shows events members have published nearby; it does not list events that do not exist in the app.

Can I host an event?

Yes. Tap + on the Roam map and choose Create event, with a title, description, start and end dates, a photo and a pinned location. You can share it with friends or publish it publicly.

What is a caravan?

A dated route with scheduled stops that a host publishes for others to follow. You mark Going or Interested, can join at any remaining stop, and use the caravan chat to arrange the meetup.

Are Events included with a free account?

Events are included with a free RME account. The app shows current plan details.

What happens to the event chat afterwards?

Event and caravan chats move to your Archived inbox a day after they end. You can still talk in them and move any chat back out from its menu.
