Friends Map

Friends Map: share your location on your terms.

Friends Map shows mutual friends who choose to share their location with you, on the same Roam map you use for spots and events. You decide how you appear: Ghost, Town, Approximate (a random point within 20 miles) or Precise, for 2 hours, 8 hours, 24 hours or until you turn it off. Friends appear when they choose to share with you.

The short answer

How you appear, in your words

Ghost: “Keep your location hidden.” You can still see friends who share with you. Town: “General area of your current town,” a public town center near you; your street and exact location stay private. Approximate: “Random point within 20 miles,” a point that stays stable between refreshes so it cannot be narrowed down. Precise: “Your location, your audience,” shared with all friends or only the friends you select.

Sharing is mutual-friends only. There is no public map of members, and Friends Map is separate from Trailprint and from the Meet cards.

01

Four modes

Ghost, Town, Approximate and Precise. Pick per situation; a caravan weekend might be Precise with the people in it, a solo week might be Town.

02

Your audience

Precise sharing goes to all friends or to selected friends. Approximate and Town go to mutual friends. New mutual friends are included while sharing is active.

03

Your clock

Share for 2 hours, 8 hours, 24 hours or until you turn it off. The sheet shows when sharing ends.

Friends Map and family location apps

If you are comparing with a family safety app such as Life360, the jobs are different. Life360’s own site describes it as “the leading family location safety app,” with a free tier that includes 2 days of location history and 2 place alerts, and paid plans adding crash detection, longer history and emergency dispatch (checked October 2026 at life360.com). Friends Map is for travelers who want friends on the road to see roughly where they are, with precision and time limits chosen per share, and no location history is shown to friends. RME publishes this comparison.

Straight answers

Questions about friends map.

The details that help you decide how RME fits your next trip.

Who can see my location on Friends Map?

Only mutual friends, and only while you are sharing. Precise can be narrowed to selected friends. Nobody outside your friends sees a pin.

How approximate is Approximate?

Friends see a randomized point within 20 miles of you, labeled Approximate. It stays stable between refreshes to protect your location.

Does Friends Map keep a history of where I have been?

Friends see your current shared point, not a trail. Trailprint is the separate, optional feature that records your own route, and its visibility is its own setting.

Can I share with just one person?

Yes. Choose Precise and set the audience to selected friends.

Is Friends Map included with a free account?

Friends Map is included with a free RME account. The app shows current plan details.
