Vanlife app

The vanlife app for places, people, gear and journeys.

RME (Roam Meet Explore) is a vanlife app that puts the practical parts of life on the road in one place: a map of campsites and road essentials, travel friends and events, a marketplace for vans and gear, and Trailprint, a map of everywhere you have actually been. RME is on Google Play for Android and in TestFlight beta for iPhone.

The short answer

What RME does, in plain terms

Four tabs: Roam, Meet, Explore and Market. Roam is the map, with spot types such as Camping, Overnight Parking, Water, Dump Station, Propane, EV Charging, Hot Spring, Viewpoint, Shower and Laundry, plus Events and the Friends Map. Meet is for finding travel friends and messaging them, built for platonic friendship. Explore is where travelers post stories, photos and Rolls, share van builds and follow creators. Market is a classifieds board for vans, gear and services.

RME does not try to be a booking site or a turn-by-turn navigator. It is the layer between those tools and the people you meet on the road: where to stop tonight, who is nearby, what is happening this weekend, and a record of the trip when it is over.

01

Roam: the map

Spots by type, member notes and photos, verified and unverified public pins, your private spots, and friends’ spots. Add a place with a name, photos and honest notes.

02

Meet: your people

Discover cards built from your bio and interests, messages with Primary, General and Archived inboxes, event and caravan chats, and block and report controls.

03

Explore: the stories

For You, Following and Creators feeds; Mix, Photos and Rolls; van builds with specs and lessons; creator guides and courses.

04

Market: the gear

Van, Gear and Service listings with an asking price, condition and city-level location. RME takes no payment and provides no escrow.

How it works in RME

How a typical day with RME goes

  1. 01

    Open Roam and look around

Turn on the spot types you care about (Camping, Viewpoint, Hiking Trail and Hot Spring are on by default), read the notes, and save the stops worth returning to.

  2. 02

    Start Trailprint when you drive

After the in-app disclosure, Trailprint records the roads and trails behind you and adds up distance, area and your streak. It is optional and private by default.

  3. 03

    See who is around

Friends who share on Friends Map show at the precision they chose: town, a point within 20 miles, or precise. Meet cards show travelers whose interests overlap yours.

  4. 04

    Join or make a plan

Events are filtered by distance and date, with Going, a waitlist and an event chat. Caravans are dated routes other travelers can follow and join.

  5. 05

    Share the real trip

Post photos or Rolls to Explore, show your build with its layout and lessons, and keep the trip on your profile.

Roam spots, Trailprint, Events and Friends Map are included with a free RME account. The app shows the current plan details, so check there for anything that is still optional.

Details that matter

Before you count on it.

Who RME is built for

Van dwellers, overlanders, RVers, car campers and weekend road-trippers. Meet is built for friendship and community rather than dating. RME requires members to be 18 or older.

What RME is not

  • Not a campsite booking service: there is no reservation flow, and public-land spots are starting points you confirm with the land manager.
  • Not a navigation app: Roam shows places and your Trailprint, not turn-by-turn directions.
  • Not a payment processor: Market is person-to-person classifieds. Payment and pickup are arranged between members.
Straight answers

Questions about vanlife app.

The details that help you decide how RME fits your next trip.

Is RME free?

RME is free to download. Roam spots, Trailprint, Events and Friends Map are included with a free RME account. The app shows the current plan details, so check there for anything that is still optional.

Which phones does RME run on?

Android phones through Google Play, and iPhone through the TestFlight beta. The App Store listing is not live yet; when it is, this site’s download buttons switch to it.

Does RME work offline?

Do not assume that it does. Trailprint can keep recording through patchy service, but browsing spots and loading new map information may need a connection.

Is RME a dating app?

No. Meet is designed for platonic friendship and an outdoor travel community. You can hide yourself from Discover at any time, and blocked people cannot find or message you.

Can I sell my van on RME?

Yes. Market has a Van category with an asking price, condition, location and up to 20 photos. Your first Van listing is free for a 30-day term. RME does not handle the payment.
